L'Arbre de Mai tapestry in Loiselles stitch, evoking a scene of peasant festivities full of gaiety and colour.
Inspired by an original cartoon by David Teniers II (1610-1690) produced in Brussels around 1650 in the workshops of Jérome le Clerc and Jacques Van der Borcht, this hanging was woven in the workshops of Van der Hecke. A familiar subject for the weaver, village fairs and fetes perfectly illustrate scenes of peasant life full of movement, colour and gaiety.
